Hello, weekend. We're ready for you. This is how:

Let's be honest here - Friday's are the harbinger of party time. The weekend is fast approaching, work is piling up because next week will take care of itself, and it's tough to think about anything other than what new beer (or cider) might be out there to try. That's where we come in. We're your weekend supply headquarters, and here's what we're keeping cold for you right now....

Doc's Draft Cider Cassis, Peach, Pear, Framboise, and (yes) Dry-Hopped ciders

“From Doc's Draft Hard Apple Cider (great, semi-dry and effervescent refreshment) to the incredibly dry, delicate, and fragrant Doc's Draft Hard Pear Cider, to the tremendous Doc's Framboise, which is a dessert beverage that is on par with any dessert wine out there. The raspberry can be sipped on a long hot day...what a delicious enjoyment..."

Mikkeller Spontanseabuckthorn

In the spontan series we present Spontanseabuckthorn – this time, forming an alliance with sea buckthorn that were generously added underway the brewing process, creating a truly unique and distinct, sour beer.

Hermitage Equinox

Equinox comes to us out of Hop Union’s Hop Breeding program in the Pacific Northwest. Our initial impression is that it reminds us of some of our favorite American varieties, with a lot of citrus and tropical fruit underscored by a pleasant herbal character. The citrus is brighter in this one, more lemon-lime than orange or grapefruit. The bitterness is present but not harsh, imparting a slightly resinous, pine-like flavor. The finish is also bright and cooling with a touch of spice.

Stillwater Artisan Ales Vaccuum

A complex blend various smoked, caramel and subdued roasted malts lay the base for a combination of piney, dank and (dark) fruity hops. While there is a lot to contemplate with this beast, just be sure to enjoy it without getting too sucked into its enigmatic composition.

Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break - Very Limited

The Roman Empire had a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ - festive food culture, extravagant architecture and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that’s still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

This is just the tip of the CBC iceberg. Come see us and check out our Draught List, try some great beer, and prep for the weekend.

New, Fresh, Limited… and Plucky!

Against the Grain Kentucky Ryed Chiquen (NO FEATHERS) - EXTREMELY LIMITED
Our first barrel aged beer here at Against the Grain is the Kentucky Ryed Chiquen. Named so because: 1. It was made in Kentucky. 2. It has a lot of Rye in it and was aged in rye barrels. and 3. It is not Chicken, and as we all know (or should know) Chiquen refers to anything that is not chicken. Brewed with Maris Otter, rye malt and caramel rye, imparting a spicy, fruity and dry flavor. Then hopped with enough English Nugget and Kent Goldings just to balance and fermented with our house ale yeast. After fermentation we moved the entire batch into the AtG private dining room and into used Redemption Rye barrels from our good friends at Strong’s Spirits. There it aged for 5 weeks until we felt it had picked up the right amount of residual bourbon character and oak flavors. We then transferred it to our serving tank, carbonated it and the end result is on tap now, a balanced drinkable and complex barrel aged beer.

Evil Twin Imperial Donut Break - EXTREMELY LIMITED
Imperial Biscotti Break dry-doughnuted!! YUM!

Evil Twin Even More Jesus - EXTREMELY LIMITED
Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

Evil Twin James Beer - LIMITED
Berliner-style Weisse ale brewed with olives AND strawberries. This beer was inspired by a food dish with strawberries and nicoise olives.

Southern Tier Choklat Oranj - SEASONAL
New for 2015. Choklat Oranj is the latest offering from Southern Tier's Blackwater Series. An Imperial Stout brewed with chocolate and orange peel.

Santa Fe Pale Ale
Anything but a typical American Pale, Santa Fe Pale Ale is as full bodied as its most robust English counterparts, while asserting its American origin with a healthy nose resplendent with Cascade and Willamette hops. It finishes with a well-balanced combination of the subtle, almost Pilsner-like maltiness accentuated by the German yeast used to brew this Santa Fe classic, and a hop bite sufficient to leave a lingering smile on the face of any fan of American Pale Ales.

St. Louis Peche - SEASONAL
Peach lambic, yo!

Two Brothers Dog Days - SEASONAL
Brewed in the style of Dortmund, Germany, this golden lager has a delicate caramel malt character, balanced by a light body and mild German noble hops, creating a crisp, refreshing finish.

CBC Glasses - V2.0 - LIMITED!

Weekly new-new

Here’s what’s in the shop…

Stone Ruination 2.0
Stone Ruination IPA was the first full-time brewed and bottled West Coast double IPA on the planet. As craft beer has evolved over the years, so too have techniques for maximizing hop flavors and aromas. For the second incarnation of our groundbreaking India pale ale, we employed dry hopping and hop bursting to squeeze every last drop of piney, citrusy, tropical essence from the hops that give this beer its incredible character. We’ve also updated the name to reflect the imperial-level intensity that’s evident in every sip. Join us in cheering this, the second stanza in our “Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop.”

Amager Bryghus Hr. Frederiksen
Even when just poured into the glass, you feel straight away that Mr. Frederiksen is a master of potency and great personality. Pitch-black as Mr. Frederiksen’s humor, this American style Imperial Stout has a dense and creamy, light brown head that leaves an abundance of lacing on the glass as it reluctantly settles.

Leaky Roof High, Dry, & Dusty
Our ginger methyglin. It is a sessionable, dry and slightly carbonated mead reminiscent of a very dry ginger ale. Bright, crisp and spicy, this mead can clear a palette and leave it feeling refreshed and thirsty for more. Exceptionably good over ice, this mead is perfect for a hot day in Missouri.

Leaky Roof Berry Picker
Our super berry melomel. It is a session-strength, petillant and sweet mead made from a blend of wildflower honey with strawberries, blueberries, blackberrries and red raspberries. This beverage is sweet, but not too sweet, fruity and an explosion of fresh berry flavor.

Leaky Roof Mikado & Gandy as well!

JK Scrumpy Perry Cider
Pours a lovely peach color. Almar Orchard apples and pears form delicious and interesting combinations with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pleasant bourbon smokiness in this sweet and relatively complex cider. Perfect for get-togethers. Cheers!

JK Scrumpy Hard Cider
Orchard Gate Gold as a unique Artisan Michigan Farmhouse Cider, somewhere between English Scrumpy and a Normandy Cidre.

Stone Mutt Brown
WORDY! Stone Brewing Supervisor Drew Neldon and Brewer Steve Via joined forces to develop the award-winning beer. When brainstorming recipe ideas, Neldon wanted to brew an altbier, while Via was interested in exploring brown ales. (Before crafting this beer, Via felt he’d never had a brown ale that synced with his palate.) Rather than focus on a single beer category, the duo decided to combine the best qualities of both styles by using four different malts to make a unique mongrel, hence the name: Imperial Mutt Brown Ale. “With such talented and inventive brewers on our team, each installment of the Stone Spotlight Series has had very stiff competition,” explains Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “During the judging session earlier this year, we were most impressed by the English notes coming from Drew and Steve’s beer. After brewing their recipe on our 120-barrel systems, the character of the English ale yeast really shines, along with the interesting blend of malts used.” The beer’s grain bill is made up of Victory, chocolate wheat, Vienna and Honey malts. Fruity and bread-like aromatics are joined by subtle coffee notes. Mild roast and coffee traits carry over to the flavor, followed by hints of toffee and molasses. Magnum and East Kent Golding hops offer a restrained, balancing bitterness to a strong malt backbone. When all these qualities combine, the result is a full-bodied, malt-driven beer that’s smooth and easy to drink. Stone Spotlight: Imperial Mutt Brown Ale is ready to be enjoyed fresh or may be aged for months or several years at proper cellaring conditions (55°F or lower). Although Drew and Steve’s Imperial Mutt Brown Ale will be available in limited quantities, fans can look forward to a new winning beer every year from the Stone Spotlight Series that showcases Team Stone’s brewing talent.
